If you think you have a lot of real friends, ask yourself how many people will remember your birthday if you didn’t have it posted on Facebook? If the answer scares you, maybe it’s time to reconsider how many good friends you actually have.
Throughout the last 26 years of my life, I went through a lot of failed friendships. People I used to call best friends became strangers and strangers turned out to be someone I would turn to when times got hard. After the group of friends that I grew up with felt apart, I started to categorize the people in my life and carefully chose the ones I considered “close”.
So I ended up with acquaintances, people I know, friends, close friends, and friends that are family / bff (in case you are reading this, I love you). My circle is really small, 3 people small excluding my boyfriend, and I’m ok with it. These are the people that I can call any time, the people that remember my birthday without that notification from Facebook telling them that it’s time to wish me Happy Birthday.
One day, one of my close friend told me that she deleted her birthday from Facebook and really got to see how many people actually remembered. The result made her, and me sad. A lot of people that she thought she was close to forgot and even some of her distant family members. I got sad too because I would be in the same situation as her.

We are all caught up in our busy life but are we that busy to forget about our close friends? In my opinion, no. There are simple ways to remember like putting their birthday in your calendar or bullet journal so I don’t really think that there is an actual excuse for forgetting.
We all need validation, the feeling of being known, maybe popular but I read the other day something on Instagram that hit me –
A post getting only 10 likes can sometimes feel pretty bad, but if 9 strangers and you were in a bar and all of them agreed or appreciated something you’ve just said, that’s gotta feel pretty awesome.
Think about it, are you happier if a lot of strangers, acquaintances, or people you know wish you a happy birthday? How many of them really mean it? How many of them want to see you growing old, thriving, and being happy?
Maybe you are wondering if I did the same and deleted mine too. Well, not yet. Why? First, because my birthday is at the end of the year and there is still time and second, I do not think I’m ready to face the reality I already know and live in. But the time will come and I will do it without even thinking twice.

I did. Years ago. No one remembered. No one.
I’m sorry to hear that..
I deleted mine too meanwhile. 2 months until my birthday and I’m ready to see who remebers it or not
Thank you. I hope they remember. Happy birthday 🎈
I hope that too😅 or else I am going to do some cleaning around my “friends”
Lol I don’t blame you 😀
What an interesting post! I hadn’t really thought about it because it never bothered me! I could see the value of removing it if it affects your mental health or wellbeing. I don’t think I’ve ever really cared of people remembered my birthday LOL I plan everything myself and get myself gifts!! Cant wait, its coming up xx

Haha I love that you are getting yourself gifts, I also do too. It kinda became an excuse so I can justify buying a lot of things😅
Happy birthday in advance then! May it be a magical one✨
I’ve not had my birthday on FB for a number of years and most people forget save for a few but I don’t mind that at all. I don’t put much sway on if someone can remember my birthday — I think I’ve always felt like this possibly because of where my birthday falls (after Xmas and just before New Year) so it kind of disappeared into the holiday times. It’s definitely an interesting experiment though if anyone hasn’t done it yet!
This is such an interesting post! I don’t use Facebook as much anymore and the same goes for most people in my circle, so they usually reach out another way these days. I agree, I think I wouldn’t receive as many messages if I removed my birthday from Facebook.
This is such an interesting idea. I definitely don’t think many people would remember my birthday if they weren’t notified. I don’t really use Facebook that much apart from to be active in a few groups.
I only keep it now for the grups too😅 I would delete it imediately otherwise
I haven’t properly used Facebook for anything other than my blog in a long time, if I didn’t need it for a business account on Instagram I would delete the whole thing. I don’t even think I have my birthday visible on it lol such an interesting read, thank you for sharing
This is so interesting! My boyfriend got rid of Facebook a few years ago and he was sad that not many remembered his birthday. It is a crazy thing that people have to rely on an app to remember these things but great post xx
I know, it’s really sad, but I guess that’s how you get to know who your true friends are..
Thank you! xx
This is such an interesting post & I think if I removed my birthday only my parents, a few close family members, my partner & maybe a couple of my good friends would remember. I don’t really want to face reality though & put it to the test 😓
The same in my situation😅
Wonderful post! I haven’t used Facebook in years, but when I did, I always got so many notifications for my birthday. While it felt nice that people took the time to wish me a happy birthday, I still did wonder if anyone would have if it didn’t remind them.
