WINTER READING LIST #BLOGMAS2020

I love to read but somehow I always end up on my phone before I go to sleep unless the book is really really great. That being said, this post is all about great books that might keep you hooked until you finish them.

THE OUTSIDER BY STEPHEN KING

An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens—Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

I can’t really say a lot about this without giving spoilers but if you love a good mystery book you just have to read this one.

HARRY POTTER BY J.K.ROWLING

If you haven’t read Harry Potter yet, well what are you doing? This one is a great series to read over Christmas break as it really transports you into a world full of magic and great adventures.

ORIGIN BY DAN BROWN

Robert Langdon, Harvard professor of symbology, arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a forty-year-old billionaire and futurist, and one of Langdon’s first students.

My friend recommended this book a while ago and I finished it in one day. The descriptions were so amazing that I had to actually look up some of the paintings described so I can see them better.

THE AFTER SERIES BY ANNA TODD

There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything AFTER… Life will never be the same.

I started with the first book of the series in an afternoon and before bedtime, the books were done and I have already placed an order for the rest of them. The story is somehow cliches but the love described is powerful and sicker and well…it has everything.

J.F.K 11/22/63 BY STEPHEN KING

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back?

As in the other book by Stephen King, I won’t say much about this one. It was an impulse buy on a random night when I was bored but omg I don’t regret this at all.

FRANNY AND ZOOEY BY J.D. SALINGER

Everything everybody does is so–I don’t know–not wrong, or even mean, or even stupid necessarily. But just so tiny and meaningless and–sad-making. And the worst part is, if you go bohemian or something crazy like that, you’re conforming just as much only in a different way.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS BY EMILY BRONTE

He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.

This one along with Pride and Prejudice are some beautiful classic books that you just have to read at some point in your life.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE BY JANE AUSTEN

When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy, she thinks him arrogant and conceited; he is indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. When she later discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between his friend Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to dislike him more than ever.

THE GIRL THEY LEFT BEHIND BY ROXANNE VELETZOS

On a freezing night in January 1941, a little Jewish girl is found on the steps of an apartment building in Bucharest. With Romania recently allied with the Nazis, the Jewish population is in grave danger, undergoing increasingly violent persecution. The girl is placed in an orphanage and eventually adopted by a wealthy childless couple who name her Natalia. As she assimilates into her new life, she all but forgets the parents who were forced to leave her behind. They are even further from her mind when Romania falls under Soviet occupation.

This one is a very lightweight reading but it brings you to a cruel world. I finished it in one day and I actually cried several times while reading it. Partly because my own distant relatives were trapped in that regime and partly because Roxanne tells the story in a beautiful way.

THE DEVIL AND MISS PRYM BY PAULO COELHO

A stranger arrives at the remote village of Viscos, carrying with him a backpack containing a notebook and eleven gold bars. He comes searching for the answer to a question that torments him: Are human beings, in essence, good or evil? In welcoming the mysterious foreigner, the whole village becomes an accomplice to his sophisticated plot, which will forever mark their lives.
