ropeUsing honey as a face mask? It might seem a bit weird I know but you might think of giving it a go after reading this post. Manuka Honey is basically good for everything but you really have to be careful when it comes to buying it. Not all the Manuka Honeys out there will give you all the benefits you need for your face or body.
How to know which one to buy? Well, continue reading this post so that you will be able to buy the right product in the end.

What it’s good for:
- treat acne;
- antibacterial properties;
- antiviral, anti-inflamatory and antioxidant benefits;
- healing wounds;
- healing sore throats;
- preventing tooth decay;
- improving digestive issues;
- help prevent gastric ulcers;
Why aren’t all the Manuka Honeys the same?
The Manuka Honeys are know for all the antioxidants and antibacterial benefits but not all of them have the same power when it comes to fighting against bacteria. They have different KFactor, UMF and MGO and you have to pick a certain one to get all or almost all the benefits. If you go for the right ones you will see that they are pricey so you don’t really want to spend money on something that is not going to provide all the right benefits for you.
KFactor, UMF and MGO? What are those?
KFACTOR
This one is a grading system created by Wedderspoon and it’s grading process is based on measuring the amount of pollen in the honey in order to determine purity.
- KFactor 12 – means 65% of pollen being Manuka pollen
- KFactor 16 – means 75% of pollen being Manuka pollen
- KFactor 22 – means 90% of pollen being Manuka pollen
You should really go for the ones with a KFactor of 16 or more because those are the ones with the most proprieties.
UMF
This one stands for Unique Manuka Factor and you should really go for this one if you have the chance. This one tests for a natural compound unique to Manuka to assure purity of the honey. The number reflects the antibiotic strength of the honey.
- UMF 5+ or 8+ : low levels of antibacterial effects – this one is rather recommended for daily use;
- UMF 10+ or 12+ : low to medium antibacterial effects – you can use this one daily for a good health;
- UMF 15+, 16+, 18+ : high antibacterial effects;
- UMF 20+, 25+ : very high antibacterial effects;
The one recommended for a good face mask are the one from 15+ and above.
MGO
It’s a grading system created by Manuka Health New Zeeland Ltd. and it measure the antibacterial activity by measuring the methylglyoxal levels.
- MGO 100 – minimum activity;
- MGO 250 – medium activity;
- MGO 400 – strong activity;
- MGO 550 – super strong activity;
The one you should get in this case is the one with MGO 250 or higher.
I bought it, now what?
Now all you have to do is apply a thin layer all over your face every day / every other day for at least 30 minutes. Please don’t expect the results to appear over night at this is a process that takes time.
If you are like me, you might expect a lot of results after the first 2 weeks, considering the fact that the Manuka Honey is quite pricey. I’ve read a lot of others informations and people began to see results after using it for at least a month. So be patient, great things take time!
I am using this one
In my next blogpost I will talk about the other products that I use to clear my face and get rid of them or just diminish them a lot so stay tuned for more tips.
I will also come back with a post regarding my experience with Manuka Honey after I’ll test it enough.

I love Manuka honey! I tried this mixed with lemon juice in the past when I was struggling with acne, and although I don’t use one with the best UMF I still saw some results! I love that this face mask is natural and simple too!
Thanks for sharing!
