What’s really behind your bloating?

Do you often feel bloated after a meal? You aren’t alone. We’re in something of a bloating epidemic at the moment, with most people now regularly experiencing bloating to some extent. More often than not, this is nothing much to worry about. Certain foods like lentils and beans are notorious are packing our bellies. For women, that time of month always comes complete with at least a few days of feeling this way. But, if you find that you’re bloated all the time, it might be time to take things a little more seriously.

Despite this epidemic, continual bloating can be a sign that something’s going on. Instead of just undoing the top button on your trousers, then, keep on reading to get some idea of what’s behind your bloat. Food Intolerance

It may even be that your bloating is down to your diet. In an age where more people are experimenting with things like vegan diets, it’s no wonder we’re seeing an increase in problems. That’s because we’re testing our bodies in ways we haven’t before. While it’s possible to live a healthy lifestyle on diets like these, you may want to get a check over with your doctor. An intolerance to legumes or foods with high-inflammation could be causing you issues. You may even find that you have an issue with wheat or gluten, which seems to be a common problem in our modern age. And, once you know what foods you can’t have, you can work on building a diet with doesn’t leave you in pain.

Crohn’s Disease

Bloating can also come about as a result of Crohn’s disease. This condition relates to your G.I. tract and again, bloating is one of the first warning signs. Given that many people living with Crohn’s wait years for diagnosis, it’s worth acting fast if you notice continual bloat mixed with things like joint pain and skin lesions. The sooner you start on the journey to diagnosis, the sooner you can kiss goodbye to that uncomfortable feeling, and start pooping better too. Even if your doctor dismisses your concerns here, keep pushing if your symptoms match. You deserve a diagnosis which can ease that terrible discomfort!

Cancer

It’s worth noting first that bloating can be an early sign of a fair few cancers. As can be seen from these ovarian cancer symptoms, bloating paired with continual feelings of fullness are some of the first signs that many patients with ovarian cancer experience. Bloating can also be a sign of stomach, pancreatic, and uterine cancer to name just a few. That’s a whole load of possibilities, and it’s not worth hanging around to let them take their toll. If you notice other symptoms like diarrhea, stomach pains, or excessive vaginal discharge, act fast to nip this whole bloating thing in the bud.

    I hate bloating!! I’ve been vegan for almost two years because I was having horrible stomach pains, bloating, and was constantly sick. Once I switched over to being vegan, I haven’t bloated and my stomach is used to eating lentils and beans so frequently that I don’t get bloated from them either! Lactose was a HUGE factor, but I had cut out most lactose before going vegan because it was a trigger I already knew about. I think I had some other intolerances as well.

      I know what you mean! Lactose is a trigger for me too and I am slowly trying to replace them with plant based options

    What an informative post! Appreciated reading this – someone did tell me food intolerance was the most common reason why! A lot of it apparently has to do with carbs and the kind of ingredients companies put into our food these days … some are so far from being natural / organic and healthy from us!

      Lactose is a big factor in getting bloated for some too…I suffer as well and I still haven’t went to the doctor for some proper tests😂
